No. 9 Diplomats Secure 5-1 Win Over York

LANCASTER, Pa. – Lily Mynott and Darby Klopp combined for five goals to power the No. 9 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team past York by a 5-1 score on Wednesday evening in Lancaster.

The Diplomats improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 3-3.

The game was scoreless until the waning moments in the first quarter when F&M got on the board. Lily Mynott grabbed a rebounded shot and pushed it past the York defense to get the Diplomats on the board in the 15th minute.

In the 22nd minute of play, Mynott blasted in her second score of the game. Off a deflection from the keeper, Mynott launched the ball into the cage to extend the lead to 2-0.

Mynott scored for the third time less than a minute later. The junior forward deked the keeper to find an open shooting lane on the right side to score her third and final goal of the day in the 23rd minute. The three scores gave Mynott her second consecutive hat trick and nine goals on the young season.

Darby Klopp scored her first goal of the day when she corralled a rebound off of a scrum in the middle and blasted it past the York defense in the 32nd minute.

F&M recorded its fifth goal in the 38th minute when Klopp, again, found the back of the cage off of a rebounded shot to secure a 5-0 lead for the Diplomats.

In the 56th minute, York got on the board when the Spartans crossed the ball from the right side and eked it past Sydney Lippe, narrowing the score to 5-1.

F&M outshot the Spartans, 27-9, as Erin Coverdale led the Diplomats with 12 shot attempts. Christina Seery (5-0) recorded three saves behind a stout Diplomat defense.

The Diplomats begin Centennial Conference play on Saturday when F&M hosts Muhlenberg on Tylus Field at 12:00 p.m.
