CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's stringent defense earned its second straight shutout and third in the last four games with a 2-0 blanking of Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey competition on Wednesday.
The road win improved the No. 8 ranked Diplomats to a perfect 7-0, 2-0 CC record on the year while the Red Devils dropped to 4-4, 1-1 CC.
Goalkeeper Christina Seery (7-0) continued her strong play in cage, stopping the only four shots F&M's backline allowed on the afternoon. Seery now has four shutouts on the year and hasn't allowed a goal in her last four appearances.
The first quarter saw the Diplomats blank Dickinson in the shot column by a 5-0 margin but F&M was unable to find the back of the cage through the opening 15 minutes of play.
In the second, the Diplomats finally got on the board when Erin Coverdale fed Lily Mynott in 17th minute for the 1-0 lead. Mynott has now registered a goal in all eight of F&M's games to start the year and has eight scores in her last four contests.
Just three minutes ticked off the clock in the second period until the Diplomats added onto their lead. This time it was Coverdale notching the tally, taking a pass from Darby Klopp and recording her fifth score of the season.
Overall, the final shot count favored F&M at 12-4, as well as penalty corners at 4-1. Coverdale led the offensive charge with four shots, followed by Mynott with three.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host Haverford in a 12:00 p.m. Centennial showdown on Tylus Field.
