LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's women's golf team opens the spring portion of their 2019 schedule on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to the Dickinson Spring All-American Invitational.
The event is set to take place at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course with an 11:00 a.m. tee time.
F&M welcomes back a pair of top-25 finishers from last year's Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament lineup to lead a group of five total returners.
Megan Whittier highlights the group of returners for F&M. She carded an 89 during the opening day of last year's CC Tournament, a score which served as the best round of her career and placed her tied for fifth out of 38 competitors at the event. Whittier ultimately finished the two-day tournament with a 200 total (89-111) to place 21st and lead a field of four F&M women's golfers.
Sophomore Jamila Gowdy shaved three strokes off her day-one tally to secure a 22nd-place finish with a 201 (102-99).
A Recap of the Fall
F&M competed at four events in the fall and saw its best finish occur at the McDaniel Tri-Match on Sept. 16th when the Diplomats placed second after carding a 428 on the day. Ember Toth led the way with a fifth-place showing out of 14 competitors after shooting a 103.
Gowdy and Toth led F&M in stroke average in the fall at 103 through one and two rounds, respectively, while Maddy Markmann-Porch was third with a 105.3 through three rounds.
Following the opening event against Dickinson this weekend, the Diplomats will host a Tri-Match on Sunday, March 31 at Overlook Golf Course. F&M travels for a McDaniel Tri-Match on April 6th, with the two-day Centennial Championship scheduled to run April 27-28 at Conestoga Country Club in Lancaster.
