Diplomats Hand Shorewomen First Setback

LANCASTER, Pa. – Lauren Ehrhardt, Lauren Selawski, and Cat Serpe each rolled up five points as Franklin & Marshall cruised past Washington College 16-5 at Tylus Field on Saturday. Four different Diplomats (7-1, 2-0 CC) produced multi-goal games, with Cat Serpe registering a hat trick.  It was the second time in less than 24 hours that seventh-ranked F&M handed an undefeated team from Maryland's Eastern Shore its first loss of the season.

The trio set the tone early with goals in the first minute. Serpe beat the Shorewomen keeper, Stephanie Seibert in the top right corner 27 seconds in. Lauren Selawski then set up Lauren Ehrhardt with a quick stick feed 14 seconds later to give F&M a 2-0 lead 41 seconds into the game. Serpe's goal was the first of her hat trick on the afternoon. She also registered two assists. Selwaski posted identical numbers and scored F&M's third goal of the game after Washington's Kallie Parrish got the guests on the board. Ehrhardt finished the game with four goals and an assist.

The 16-goal afternoon marked F&M's most productive offensive day of the season. The Diplomats had eight different players score. Caroline Krohn scored twice and assisted on as many.

Washington was still within three goals, 7-4, late in the first half, but F&M broke off the next nine markers. Meanwhile, F&M's defense played 35:04 of scoreless lacrosse. Washington broke through in the second half with 58 seconds left in the game when Olivia Hanley buried a behind the net feed from Sarah Cannon. Hanley was the fifth different goal scorer for the Shorewomen. Cannon's assist was the only helper for Washington. She also scored a goal.

F&M's dominance began on the draw circle. The Diplomats owned a 15-8 advantage, gaining possession on 11 of the 15 draws in the first half. Erin Dunne accounted for four of the draws, while Ehrhardt won three. Serpe and Ali Kelly each had four ground balls. The Diplomats led 14-9 in that department. The possession time added up to a 32-14 advantage in shots.

The Diplomats return to action Tuesday evening against SUNY-Oneonta.
