Diplomats Down Lions

EWING, N.J. – Cat Serpe and Lauren Ehrhardt combined for nine goals to lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to a 16-12 victory over No. 3 TCNJ in women's lacrosse action Friday evening.  F&M snapped the Lions' 18-game home winning streak with the victory and improved 9-2 while TCNJ fell to 10-2.

The Diplomats struck first when Cat Serpe scored an unassisted goal 3:04 into the game and Mary Mitchell tallied 50 seconds later to give F&M a 2-0 lead at 26:06.  TCNJ got on the board at 25:01 before the Diplomats rallied off three straight to go up 5-1 with 18:34 left in the first. Serpe scored back-to-back goals 49 seconds apart and Ehrhardt took a feed from Maggie Mae Shields for the third goal of the run.

TCNJ came within three, 5-2, at 16:08, but Mitchell found twine seconds later to put F&M back up four. Alex Spark scored on a free position at 11:12 to bring the Lions within two, before Mitchell and Ehrhardt tallied back-to-back scores to put F&M up five, 8-3, at 9:35.  The teams traded scores over the next two minutes before TNCJ netted two consecutive goals to bring the score to 9-6. F&M got one back when Serpe struck with 30 seconds left in the half to give the Diplomats a 10-6 halftime edge.

The Lions came out strong in the second half with four unanswered goals to tie the game at 10-10. That was as close as they would get as F&M scored two goals in 12 seconds to go up 12-10 and never looked back. Erin Dunne scored the first goal and assisted Ehrhardt on the latter at 18:51. TCNJ managed a score at 16:34, but the Diplomats responded with a 4-0 run to blow the game wide open and take a 16-11 edge with 7:08 left to play. Lauren Selawski had two of those scores with Serpe and Dunne adding the others.

Ali Kelly and Shields each won four draws while Anne Brockmeyer finished with two caused turnovers.

Kelsey Hoffman turned away seven shots to pick up her ninth win of the season. Kelsey Zinck took the loss for the Lions.

The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M hosts Swarthmore at 4:00 p.m.
