Krohn Leads F&M Over W&L

LANCASTER, Pa. – Caroline Krohn scored five goals and handed out three assists to lead No. 13 Franklin & Marshall to a 13-5 victory over Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action. 

The Generals (1-3) scored first 1:07 into the game, but the lead was short lived as the Diplomats (2-0) tallied five straight over a span of ten minutes to go up 5-1 at 17:34.  Krohn started the spurt with an unassisted goal at 28:35 and Maggie Mae Shields' goal at 26:14 put F&M up 2-1. Ali Kelly struck with back-to-back scores before Krohn got her second to end the run. 

Meredith Lavin made it 5-2 with a goal for the General before Krohn, Shields and Kimberly Abruzzo all found the net to put F&M up 8-2 with 7:22 remaining in the half. W&L finished the half strong with two unanswered scores to send the game into the break with the Diplomats leading 8-4.

F&M dominated the second as Krohn scored twice to start the final frame. W&L made it 10-5 at 9:12, but the Diplomats netted the final three goals of the contest.  Abruzzo took a feed from Krohn for the first score and Casey Madden netted the final two scores for the Diplomats. 

Krohn came away with six draws and Mary Mitchell finished with three.  Caroline Doran caused three turnovers, Megan Kelly had six grounds and Jen Noon ended with five groundballs. 

Kelsey Hoffman improved to 2-0 with five saves while Cara Mulligan turned away nine shots in the loss. 

F&M outshot the Generals 27-18 and collected 23 groundballs to the W&L's 13.  The Diplomats came away with 15 on the game's 20 draws and went 15-for-21 in clears. 

The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M host No. 3 Cortland St.
