LANCASTER, Pa. – Vanessa Budd, Grace Saliba and Samantha Blicht were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) All-America Team announced Friday. Budd earned first team honors while Saliba and Blicht landed on the second team. The All-America honor is the first for all three players and brings F&M's total All-America honors to 66.
Budd (Darien, Conn. / Darien High School) was named to the All-Metro Region First Team earlier this week, earned Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Year and CC First Team honors earlier this postseason as she collects her third postseason award. Budd anchored the Diplomats on the defensive side of the ball, as F&M ranked second in the CC in fewest goals against with 136. The sophomore is second on the team in ground balls at 31, has caused the second-most turnovers with 18, and is tied for second in draw controls at 35.
Saliba (Davidsonville, Md. / St. Andrew's School) picked up her third postseason award of her career after being named first team all-region and selected as a unanimous first team All-CC selection. She is second on the team in both assists (37) and points (69) and ranks fourth with 32 goals. The junior has tallied three or more points in 17 contests, including four games with five or more points, and has a 78.1 shot-on-goal percentage.
Blicht (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) earned IWCLA First Team All-Region honors earlier in the week and picked up her second All-CC award last week, earning a spot on the first team. She has started in 19 contests, playing a key role for the Diplomats' stifling defense and leads the team in ground balls (32) and caused turnovers (21). F&M's defense led the conference in total caused turnovers with 192 and was second in ground balls (330) behind Haverford (333) during the regular season.
No. 3 F&M continues action in the regional semifinals this weekend when the Diplomats take on No. 9 Tufts at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Tylus Field.
