CARLISLE, Pa. -- Maddie Hughes scored five goals to lead No. 10 Franklin & Marshall to a 15-4 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 13-4, 7-1 CC while the Red Devils dropped to 9-7, 5-3 CC.
The Diplomats jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half. Hannah Serling, Hughes and Katie Groenke all struck in the first 10 minutes for the early 3-0 edge. Hughes netted back-to-back scores off feeds from Natalie Delinsky and Serling. Gabby Frank, Siobhan Burke and Delinsky netted three straight, before Dickinson finally lit the board at 7:30 to make it 8-1. F&M closed out the half with two straight off goals from Moriarty and Hughes for a 10-1 advantage at the break.
Delinsky made it 11-1 early in the second and the Red Devils answered a minute later to a make it 11-2. The Diplomats countered with a 4-0 run, off goals from Delinsky, Danielle Wilson, Moriarty and Hughes to make to make it 15-2. Dickinson put the last points on the board with two in final six minutes of action.
Hughes finished with five scores and five draws, Moriarty had two goals and two assists and Delinsky scored three with one helper to help lead the offense. Maggie Hanzsche caused three turnovers and Vanessa Budd ended with two caused turnovers to pace the defense.
Julia Nelson picked up the win with seven stops and Layne Taber took the loss for Dickinson.
F&M outshot Dickinson 24-16 and went 12-for-16 on clear attempts.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host Muhlenberg in the regular-season finale at 12:00 p.m.
