F&M Falls to Swarthmore

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference (CC) contest Saturday at Tylus Field.

The Diplomats wrapped their 2010 season with a 7-8-1 overall record and a 5-7 mark in the CC. Prior to the contest, F&M bid farewell to seniors Shelby Cummins, Amy Chabitnoy and Beth Holt.

Swarthmore (8-7-2 overall, 6-4 CC) took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Hannah Purkey and Kelsey Cline. Purkey took a pass from Kristen Peterson and sent a shot to the top right corner for a 1-0 Garnet lead. Cline headed a Laura Bolger free kick to give Swarthmore another goal at the 18:01 mark.

Megan Brock tacked on two more goals for the Garnet in the second half. Her first score came off of rebound in front of the goal while her second was well-placed shot just out of the reach of F&M keeper Hannah Barry.

Swarthmore held a 23-6 advantage in shots. Marie Mutryn picked up the win in goal for the Garnet while Barry stopped 10 shots for the Diplomats.
