LANCASTER, Pa.—The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team qualified for the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament on Monday, clinching the fifth and final spot thanks to a 2-1 win by Swarthmore over Haverford in the regular season finale. This will be the Diplomats first appearance in the tournament since 2002, and third overall.
Going into the final weekend of the season, the Diplomats needed to defeat Dickinson, and hope for a Swarthmore win or tie against Haverford. The Diplomats defeated the Red Devils 1-0 on Sunday, thereby winning the tiebreaker, as both teams finished with 18 points.
In its two previous appearances, F&M lost in the semifinals both times; a 2-0 setback against Muhlenberg in 2001, and a 2-1 defeat against Johns Hopkins in 2002.
F&M will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to fourth-seeded Haverford for a first round matchup with the Fords. The game time is still to be determined.
