GALLOWAY, N.J. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision on Wednesday night against Richard Stockton in non-conference action. The loss brings the Diplomats' record to 2-5-5 on the season, while the Ospreys improve to 14-2-2.
Stockton got on the board early when Jessica Bainis made her way around goalkeeper Amanda McGowan and fired a shot into an empty net at the 14th minute mark. Shots were limited for F&M in the opening half as the Diplomats generated only one attempt. The Ospreys registered eight shots in the first, placing four on net.
F&M entered the second half down by one, but was able to even up the score at the 61st minute mark off of Carley Nicholson's fourth score of the season. The senior fielder took advantage of a Stockton handball when she received a pass off of a free kick from Spencer Plante and ripped a high shot under the crossbar.
The contest remained 1-1 until the 88th minute mark. With time winding down, the Ospreys scored the go ahead goal when Jess McQuillen sailed a pass across the field to Briana Fischer who blasted a shot past a diving McGowan.
The Diplomats were outshot 17-4 in the contest. The Ospreys also held the edge in corner kicks, 12-0. McGowan faced nine shots on goal during the game, recording seven saves.
F&M returns home this Saturday to take on Washington College in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
