GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team was defeated by Gettysburg 1-0 Wednesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The loss drops the Diplomats' record to 2-6-6, 1-4-4 CC, while the Bullets improve to 12-4, 8-1 CC.
The score remained knotted at 0-0 for the majority of the first half until Gettysburg opened up the scoring at the 40th minute. Lauren Schapiro tallied her fifth of the season off of a pass from Casey Attanasio. Shaprio received the ball in the center of the box and fired a shot inside the lower right corner of the net past goalkeeper Amanda McGowan.
F&M had trouble generating opportunities in the first, registering only one shot in the opening frame. McGowan was busy, having to make seven saves to keep the score to within one. The Bullets came out firing in the first half, tallying 12 shots.
In the second, the Diplomats were outshot 9-1, but McGowan stood tall in net with three saves to keep the match close. Selena Boro registered F&Ms only shot on goal in the frame, but was unable to tie up the game.
Overall, the Diplomats were outshot 21-2 during the contest. Gettysburg led F&M in corner kicks, 6-0. McGowan registered 10 saves during her 90 minutes in net.
The Diplomats finish out their season on the road against CC opponent Dickinson this Saturday. The match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
