Series History: The Diplomats clash with the Blue Jays for the 23rd time in the history of the series on Wednesday, with Elizabethtown holding a 13-7-2 advantage. Elizabethtown (2-0), a member of the Commonwealth Division of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) was picked by the conferences' coaches to finish second this season.
Last Time We Faced Elizabethtown: These teams battled last year in Elizabethtown, with the Blue Jays coming away with the 2-0 victory. Scoring chances were generated early for Elizabethtown, and those opportunities eventually paid off when Lauren Barry took a cross pass from Callie McClanahan and netted a goal to put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0.
In the second, the Blue Jays tacked on another goal in the 63rd minute when Lauren Fredericks created open space and sent a shot to the lower left corner that found its way past goalkeeper Amanda McGowan. The tally made the score 2-0 and put the game out of reach for the Diplomats.
Last Week: F&M was downed by Roanoke (1-0) in 2OT and No. 19 Lynchburg (4-0) at the Roanoke Invitational in Salem, Va.
Against the Maroons, Ashley Barnes knocked in an unassisted goal into the right side of the net just a minute into double overtime to clinch the 1-0 Roanoke victory. Caroline Letner stopped six of seven shots on the night for the Diplomats, while Spencer Plante recorded four shots to lead the offense.
On Sunday against the Hornets, F&M was unable to overcome two early Lynchburg goals en route to the 4-0 loss. Shannon Johnson-Finn was solid in net for the Diplomats, making eight saves.
