LANCASTER, Pa. – Nicole Rynecki tied the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute, however the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team was edged out 2-1 in 2OT by Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats fell to 1-7, 0-2 CC, while the Bears jumped to 3-4-1, 1-0-1 CC.
With the score knotted at 0-0 in the 83rd minute of the contest, Ursinus' Danielle Beal ripped a shot that F&M goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn saved, however the ball came out on the right side where Alexis Haug was there to put it in and give the Bears a late 1-0 advantage.
Less than two minutes later, in the 85th minute, a Diplomat corner kick was deflected and Rynecki knocked it in for her first goal of the year that pulled F&M into a tie at 1-1 and sent the game into overtime.
After neither team could find the back of the net in the first overtime, the match headed to a second overtime where Ursinus' Katherine Bell took a shot from just inside the middle of box in the 105th minute that snuck past Johnson-Finn to give the Bears the 2-1 victory.
The first half did not feature many chances for both teams, however with 22 minutes to go in the opening half, Ursinus found space in the middle of the field and fired a shot on net, but Johnson-Finn made a diving stop to her right to keep the score at 0-0.
With 38 minutes left in regulation, Spencer Plante shot at the top-right of the box, however Bears' goalie Courtney Sullivan got a hand on the ball and tipped it over the crossbar. For the rest of the second half, each defense would not allow many more chances until late where both teams scored a goal less than two minutes apart.
F&M's Brianna Reid recorded two shots for the Diplomats, while Johnson-Finn (0-5) made eight saves between the pipes.
F&M returns to the pitch next Sunday when the Diplomats welcome Bryn Mawr to Tylus Field for a 1:00 p.m. game.
