ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall was edged out by Muhlenberg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action. The Diplomats fell to 1-11, 0-6 CC, while the Mules improved to 8-3-2, 4-2 CC.
With the game knotted at 1-1 in the 61st minute, Muhlenberg's Abby Lazofsky scored off a pass from Colleen Touhey about six yards from net to give the Mules a 2-1 lead. From there, F&M saw limited chances as Muhlenberg held on for the 2-1 win.
In the first half, the Mules found the back of the net in the 14th minute as Touhey shot a ball from the top of the box that went right under the crossbar and in for a 1-0 Muhlenberg advantage.
For the remainder of the first, Mules' goalkeeper Jen Mermelstein stood tall as the contest stayed at 1-0 going into the break.
Early on in the second half, in the 53rd minute, the Diplomats tied the game when Brianna Reid passed to Spencer Plante near the top of the box and Plante curved the ball past Muhlenberg's Mermelstein to make it 1-1.
About eight minutes later, the Mules notched the eventual game-winner.
Plante led the offense with her first goal of the season for F&M, while Reid and Megan Rubenstein each recorded a shot.
Muhlenberg held a slight 12-11 advantage in shots, while the Diplomats led in corner kicks at 6-3.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday, as the Diplomats step out of CC action and travel to Richard Stockton for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
