BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Kate Kerr scored two goals and Sarah Mischianti logged two assists as Franklin & Marshall defeated Bryn Mawr 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action. The Diplomats improved to 3-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in CC play, while the Owls fell to 2-8 and 0-3.
The opening minutes yielded multiple offensive opportunities for F&M, as the Diplomats fired four shots in the opening 12 minutes. Continued attacking play from F&M yielded the game's opening goal in the 24th minute when senior Kate Kerr cleaned up the rebound from a Sarah Mischianti shot to give the Diplomats a 1-0 lead.
F&M continued to apply pressure for the remainder of the half, but was unable to convert. As the halftime whistle blew, the Diplomats owned a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
A tight second half was blown open in the 83rd minute when Kerr and Mischianti struck again, with Kerr scoring her second goal of the game on another assist from Mischianti to give F&M a 2-0 lead.
The lead proved to be plenty for the Diplomats, as sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn was not forced to make a save in the second half. Johnson-Finn logged two saves on the day, earning the shutout in her second start of the season.
Kerr paced F&M with five shots, three of which found the target. Six other Diplomats, including Mischianti, notched an attempt at goal.
The shot count belonged to F&M at 12-7, while Bryn Mawr held the advantage in corners at 6-4.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday, hosting Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 p.m. CC matchup.
