The Diplomats have struggled against Gettysburg in the past, losing 26 of 31 meetings to the Bullets, including the last 10. Franklin & Marshall has kept things close in recent games, falling by only a single goal in six of the last eight meetings.
F&M has the opposite history against Washington College, losing only three times in 21 matchups. However, the Shorewomen have snared the last two meetings by 2-0 and 2-1 margins, respectively.
The Diplomats are just three points out of the fifth and final Centennial Conference (CC) Playoff spot with four CC matches remaining on the schedule. Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins are tied for fifth with nine points each. F&M is seeking its first Conference Tournament berth since 2011.
F&M split a pair of Centennial matchups last week, dropping a 3-0 decision at home to McDaniel on Tuesday, then grabbing a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Ursinus on Saturday.
The Diplomats gave up three early goals to McDaniel in an eight-minute span in Tuesday's loss. F&M outshot the Green Terror in the second half but fell short of a comeback. Haley Barge led the way for F&M with three shots. Recap
F&M bounced back with a road thumping of Ursinus, led by a Nicolette Runko hat trick and a four-point effort from Meg O'Callahan. Runko netted her first goal in the fourth minute, courtesy of a long assist from O'Callahan. O'Callahan scored her lone goal just seven minutes later off a free-kick. Runko finished off her triple in the second half, with her second goal off a header in the 63rd, and the third in the 86th minute coming from another O'Callahan long ball assist. The victory was the first against the Bears since 2011. Recap
Nicolette Runko's hat-trick against Ursinus on Saturday was the 22nd triple in team history, and the 26th time an F&M women's player has notched at least three goals in a game. All-time leading goalscorer, Beth Byrne (1985-88), is responsible for 10 of those multi-goal events.
Cracking The List
With 18 goals on the season, the women's squad has cracked the all-time leaderboard, tied for 28th in school history. It's the best mark since the club scored 19 goals in the 2017 campaign.
Peppering the 'Keeper
Those 18 goals this season have come on 166 shots, good enough for 10th in club history. The Diplomats are currently on pace (at nearly 14 shots per game) to crack the top five on the F&M leaderboard for shots attempted in a season - right above the 2006 team's mark of 234 shots.
