Diplomats Take Two on Saturday

F&M 14, York (N.Y.) 1 | F&M 5, Lycoming 0

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Franklin & Marshall’s softball team opened the season with a 3-1 weekend at the Virginia Beach Blast. After splitting the day on Friday, F&M swept through Saturday with a 14-1 drubbing of York (N.Y.) and a shutout over Lycoming, 5-0. The 3-1 start is the Diplomats’ best since the 2003 season when F&M won the first four.

Lauren Incorvaia and Barbara Sasso each hit a pair of home runs in the 14-1 win over York. The pair of Diplomats went back-to-back on their homers both times. Sasso finished the game with five RBIs.

Meredith Morgan (1-0) twirled a gem of a complete game, fanning 13 batters in her one-hitter. York’s only run was unearned.

Jessika Mancino, Nicole Morano, Sara Damato, and Kelly Marchisio each had two hits to lead the 16 hit assault in the win.

F&M got more solid pitching in the second game. Morano (2-0) threw a two-hit shutout, allowing only three baserunners for the duration. The Diplomats defense was perfect, finishing the day with a pair of double plays and a “0” in the E column.

Incorvaia and Morgan each rolled up a pair of RBIs in the win.

The Diplomats return to action on Thursday at Immaculata.
