Diplomats Sweep Fords For 20th Win

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall swept a Centennial Conference against Haverford Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats won the first game 4-2 and took the second contest 7-3. F&M improved to 6-5 CC, 20-10-1 while the Fords fell to 3-9, 6-19.

It is the first time since 1993 that the Diplomats have won 20 games in a season.

F&M struck first in game two in the third inning when Megan Pauley singled to left to plate Liz Chudzik. Haverford evened the score in the top of fourth to make it 1-1.

The Diplomats responded in the fourth with three runs to lead 4-1. Alicia Kukoda led off with a double and was brought home when Julie Jefferson ripped a double to left. Jefferson advanced to third on Samantha DeNoville's single and touched home on Chudzik's sacrifice fly to center. Allie McQuaide plated Denoville with a double to left.

Pauley led off the fourth with single and later scored on a wild pitch to put F&M ahead 5-1. Haverford added two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-3. F&M added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Kukoda plated Danielle Murphy with triple left before Malorie Sassaman doubled to center to score Kukoda.

McQuaide pitched 4.1 innings, striking out three and surrendering three runs, improving to 5-0 with the win. Nicole Casey fired 2.2 innings to earn the save. Kukoda and Pauley led the offense with a pair of hits each.

Haverford scored in first in game one with a run in the top of the second. The Diplomats matched in the bottom of the third when Murphy fouled out to pitcher but scored Ashley Hartshorn to make it 1-1.

F&M took its first lead in the fourth with a RBI single from Kudoda and a ground out by Hartshorn. Kudoda scored Ariel Givner and Hartshorn plated Denoville to give the Diplomats a 3-1 lead.

Denoville scored on a passed ball in the sixth to make it 4-1 before Haverford added a late run in the seventh.

Kaitlin Zampino improved to 8-4 with 6.1 innings pitched. McQuaide inherited three runners in the seventh with one out and earned the save with a strikeout. Kukoda and Zampino each had two hits for F&M.

F&M returns to the diamond Wednesday in a Centennial Conference double doubleheader against Gettysburg at 3 p.m.
