Diplomats Split Bullets

Diplomats Split Bullets

Lancaster, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall split a pair of Centennial Conference games with Gettysburg Thursday afternoon. The Bullets (7-7 CC, 17-15 overall) edged the Diplomats 5-4 in the first game before F&M (21-11-1, 7-6) took the nightcap 12-7.

Gettysburg built a 3-1 lead through three innings in the second game before the Diplomats exploded for 11 in the fourth.
Malorie Sassaman's double in the third gave F&M its first run. Caitlin Brust, Megan Pauley, Danielle Murphy, Sassaman, Julie Jefferson, Liz Chudzik and Samantha Denoville all recorded RBIs in the bottom of the fourth to put the Diplomats ahead 8-3. Brust followed those RBIs with a grand slam to give F&M a 12-3 advantaged.

Gettysburg would tack on three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Allie McQuaide remained perfect from the circle firing five innings to improve to 6-0 while Taylor Snyder (8-8) took the loss.

Chudzik led the F&M offense with three hits while Sassaman, Jefferson and Brust each had two hits. Brust had a game-high five RBIs.

Gettysburg added one run in each of the first four innings in the first game to take a 4-0 lead. The Diplomats got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on Julianne Whitleigh's home run to left field.

The Bullets went ahead 5-1 in the top of sixth before F&M added three in the bottom on the inning.

Chudzik stroked a one-out double to right field, which plated Denoville. Whitleigh's sacrifice fly to center scored Jefferson to make it 5-3 before Brust plated Chudzik with a single to left. F&M's rally was killed with two runners on, two outs and Pauley at the plate, when the home plate umpire called a runner out at second base for leaving to early and ended the inning.

Lanie Parr earned the win and improved to 9-7 while Nicole Casey fell to 7-7 for the Diplomats.  Chudzik and Brust paced F&M's offense with two hits each.

The Diplomats travel to Ursinus Friday to complete a suspended game before wrapping the season at Dickinson Saturday at 1 p.m.
