Diplomats Drop Doubleheader to Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader against Muhlenberg its season finale. The Diplomats (13-20-1, 5-11 CC) fell in the first game 4-0, and took the loss in the second game 6-5. Muhlenberg improved to 19-19, 10-6 CC.

After a quiet first inning from both teams the Mules got their bats going in the bottom of the second frame to take a commanding 4-0 lead in game one. Colleen O'Donnell touched home to put the Mules up 1-0. Alyssa Schell drove in the second run with an RBI double to left field to plate Chelsea Benjamin. Muhlenberg's final two runs came unearned.

The Mules second inning surge proved to be enough, as F&M was held scoreless through seven frames.

Justine Lohrey recorded the loss for the Diplomats, pitching a complete game.

Kelsey Jones earned the win and shutout for Muhlenberg, allowing five hits over seven innings on the mound.

In the second game, both teams got on the scoreboard in the first frame scoring a run each. Samantha Ginder drove home F&M's first run of the day with a single through the left side, touching home on the play was Danielle Murphy. The Mules responded tying the contest 1-1 with a solo homerun from Kelly Kline.

Muhlenberg broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth inning taking a 6-1 lead. The Mules first two runsoff of walks, with the final three runs crossing home off of Kline's double to left center.

The Diplomats plated four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to bring the game to 6-5 but were held scoreless in the seventh as the Mules put away the first three batters. Alicia Kukoda reached on a fielding error from third base allowing Murphy to touch home, to start the scoring for F&M, in the top of the fifth. The last two runs of the inning came unearned, with the final run of the contest coming in the sixth when Kukoda got her second RBI of the day, plating Sarah Kirk.

Kaitlin Zampino took the loss for F&M pitching 4.2 innings, giving up three hits and six runs. Lohrey came in as the  relief pitcher allowing just one hit over 1.1 innings.

Angie Sisco picked up the win for the Mules, allowing eight hits and four runs over 4.2 innings. Jones recorded the save, pitching 2.1 innings giving up two hits and one run.
