Series History: F&M travels to take on Penn St.-Harrisburg before opening up Centennial Conference (CC) action at McDaniel. This will be the first ever meeting between the Diplomats and the Lions. On Saturday, F&M travels to Westminster, Md. to take on McDaniel, who owns a 44-22 mark against the Diplomats, however the teams split in Lancaster last year. The Bears hold a 43-17 record against F&M, but the Diplomats swept Ursinus last season in a couple of one-run games (5-4 and 7-6).
Scouting the Lions, Green Terror, and Bears: Penn St.-Harrisburg competes in the Capital Athletic Conference (CC) and holds an 8-2 record on the season. Its batting average leader is Jenna Rupakus who is hitting .522 through 10 games and Amanda Hartman has posted a 1.88 earned run average from inside the circle to go along with four wins.
The Green Terror have played 14 games this season and hold an 8-6 mark. Lindsey Miller is hitting .375 with five doubles and 13 RBI, while Caroline Brehm is tied for the CC lead in wins with six, and is in first in the conference with 66 punch outs.
Ursinus is 6-7, 0-2 CC thus far this season with its two conference losses coming at the hands of Dickinson on March 22. The Bears' Arastina Barry owns the best batting average in the CC at .525, while Zoe Heinke leads the conference in RBI's with 17.
Last Week for F&M: The Diplomats posted a 7-1 record, including a seven-game win streak, on their spring break trip at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Florida last week.
After losing a close game at 5-2 to Stevens Institute on March 15, F&M rattled off seven consecutive victories. On Monday the Diplomats took down Wis.-Platteville 9-3, as Isabel Schaefer was stellar in her first collegiate start, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts and Kelly Van O'Linda led the offense with three hits and two RBI.
In the next two games, F&M blanked Salem St. (9-0) and St. Joseph (Conn.) (11-0) as Schaefer and Katie Wenger each tossed a complete game shutout. The Diplomats continued to dominate, downing Lasell 7-0 before crushing Knox 10-1.
On the final day of its trip, F&M came from behind and scored four in the bottom of the seventh to stun Brockport St. 4-3 and won its seventh straight with a 8-2 win over Nichols.
Crigler and Wenger Near Top of CC: Patricia Crigler has a .440 batting average, good for fourth in the conference, while Wenger's ERA of 0.00 ranks first in the CC.
Chasing History: Justine Lohrey (1-1) earned a win against Knox, giving her 25 wins in her career, two victories away from third place on F&M's all-time wins list. The program's leader is Valerie Koegler '89 with 52.
