KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall benefitted from quality pitching on Wednesday, defeating Lesley 2-0 and Skidmore 2-1. The pair of victories lifted the Diplomats to 7-3 on the year.
F&M opened the day bright and early, taking on Lesley at 9:00 a.m. Starting pitcher Katie Wenger (4-1) was not deterred, putting together another brilliant performance for the Diplomats. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one walk in a complete-game shutout of the Lynx.
The quality pitching continued later in the morning as F&M took on Skidmore, winning 2-1. Megan Ryan (1-0) started on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings for the Diplomats.
Isabel Schaefer took over for Ryan to begin the fifth, and escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. The save is her first of the year.
In game two it was Clemens that supplied the offense, tallying both RBIs as the Diplomats held on for the narrow victory.
F&M finishes up play in Kissimmee tomorrow, taking on Utica at 1:30 p.m. before facing Cortland St. at 3:45 p.m.
