LANCASTER, Pa. – Four members of the Franklin & Marshall softball team landed on the All-Centennial Conference Team, announced Tuesday. Erin Russell and Taylor Long earned first-team honors, while Samantha Clemens and Sam Burns were named to the second team.
Russell (Drexel Hill, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) earned All-CC recognition for the first time as the conference's best catcher after leading the Diplomats in batting average (.351) and on-base percentage (.406) in 33 games. She also ranked second on the team in hits with 34 while collecting 16 RBIs to along with a fielding percentage of .976 behind the plate.
Long (Broomall, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) was named to the first team as a utility player after a freshman campaign that saw her rank second on the team with a slugging percentage of .535. She also ranked third on the team in batting average at .338 and on-base percentage at .392, along with six doubles, one triple, and two home runs.
Clemens (Hainesport, N.J. / Rancocas Valley Regional) earned second-team honors as a shortstop, leading the Diplomats with 41 hits and ranking second with a .339 average. The freshman's eight doubles tied the team high and tied her for the second-most in the conference, while her five triples were also a team high. Her 21 RBIs ranked second on the team as well.
Burns (Norristown, Pa. / Mount St. Joseph Academy) gained second-team recognition as a centerfielder after her eight doubles tied Clemens for the team high and second most in the conference. The sophomore also led F&M with a .607 slugging percentage, good for fourth in the conference, while her five home runs paced the Diplomats and tied her for fifth in the CC.
The Diplomats finished the year with a 20-16 record and a 7-9 mark in conference action. F&M has now won 20 or more games in each of the last three seasons.
