F&M Women Start Strong

Friday Preliminary Results

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall is poised to make early noise at the 2010 Centennial Conference (CC) Championships. At the end of Friday's preliminary heats, the Diplomats' women have six women swimming in three individual events, and have solid entries in the two relays slated for the evening session.  

The Diplomats cannonballed into the conference championships, making a big splash in the 500-yard freestyle. F&M will have three swimmers in the final and an additional swimmer in the consolation final. The 2009 Outstanding Performer, Rachel Glasser of Washington (Md.), will take the top time into the final. She posted an NCAA B-Cut time of 5:06.02. F&M's Garland Bartlett placed second in the preliminary with a mark of 5:10.09, while Olivia Hill finished fourth at 5:12.75.First-year, Rebecca Rice, rounds out the Diplomats' contingent in the finals punching in at 5:15.23. Her classmate, Ana Franzluebbers, will swim in the consolation final with the tenth-best qualifying time. She touched in 5:19.95.

Katherine DeCrosta and Laura Bassford placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary. DeCrosta finished .15 seconds behind Dickinson's Elizabeth Schroll. Schroll logged a 2:13.48. Bassford was not far behind at 2:14.17.

Krista Hollingsworth landed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 25.23. Washington's Kathy Gerhart logged the top time with an NCAA B-cut mark at 24.37. Jackie Behr will compete for consolation points in the event. She finished with the ninth best time in the preliminaries at 25.52.
