Diplomats Fall to Blue Jays


LANCASTER, Pa—Johns Hopkins won 11 of 14 events on Saturday, as the Blue Jays defeated the Diplomats 170-87 in the season opener for both teams at McGinness Pool.

The Blue Jays took an early lead with a win in the 200-yard medley.  Katherine Grant earned first-place points in her first collegiate race with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, coming home in a time of 10:50.47, about five seconds ahead of teammate Olivia Hill, who took second.

Hopkins took control of the meet after the 1000, winning each of the next ten races before Katherine DeCrosta broke the streak with a win in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.10.  Diplomat swimmers took the top four places in this event, with Christine Werner, Caitlyn Fuller, and Stephanie Brooks finishing second, third, and fourth, respectively.

The third win of the day for the Diplomats came in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  The team of Krista Hollingsworth, Jackie Behr, Grant, and Rebecca Daen finished with a time of 1:43.71.

F&M returns to the water next Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Diplomats host Bryn Mawr at 1 p.m.
