LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team advanced six swimmers from this morning's preliminaries into tonight's finals at the F&M Invitational.
The Diplomats started out the day strong, placing three swimmers in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle. Katherine Grant continued her dominance at the Invitational, taking first with a time of 5:11.81, a full four seconds in front of the second-place finisher.
Teammates Maggie Johns and Alexia Tomlinson joined Grant in the final after placing in the top eight. Johns finished fourth with a time of 5:19.90, while Tomlinson touched the wall directly behind her in fifth at 5:25.26.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Taylor Mateja advanced to the finals for F&M after placing fifth with a time of 2:15.69. Kasey Christiansen, Caitlyn Fuller, Lindsay Buckle and Charlotte Katter all advanced to the consolations in the event.
Krista Hollingsworth moved on to the finals in the 100-yard freestyle, placing fourth with a time of 55.39. Jackie Behr finished ninth with a time of 56.40, missing a spot in the finals by only 0.30 seconds.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Stephanie Brooks placed fourth with a time of 2:17.07. Teammate Heather Brown missed qualifying for the finals by less than a second, finishing ninth with a time of 2:25.50.
In the only timed final of the morning, a team of Rebecca Citti, Mateja, Grant and Behr placed eighth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.42 to earn 22 points toward the Diplomat's final score.
The final events of the F&M Invitational are set to take place tonight at 5:00 p.m.
