LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 3 Johns Hopkins defeated Franklin & Marshall 161-96 Saturday afternoon in women's swimming action. The Diplomats dropped to 0-1 while the Blue Jays improved to 1-0 this season.
Katherine Grant picked up two top spots for the Diplomats. Grant finished first in 1,000-yard freestyle at 10:54.17 while her 5:17.59 in the 500-yard freestyle was the fastest in that event.
Rebecca Daen took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:00.63 and Courtney Collins touched at 1:04.03 in the 100-yard backstroke to finish third. Maggie Johns placed third (2:19.44) in the 200-yard butterfly while Jillian Albus had a good showing in the 50-yard freestyle with a second place finish in a time of 25.13.
Daen picked up a third place finish in 100-yard freestyle at 55.90 and Taylor Mateja also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.83.
Johns Hopkins swam exhibition in the final three events of the meet. Albus took first place points in the 100-yard butterfly with the third fastest time at 1:01.51, Johns had the fourth fastest time in the 200-yard IM while the 200-yard freestyle relay team turned in the second fastest time with a 1:42.88. Leeza Rojas, Albus, Grant and Daen made up the team.
F&M returns to action next Saturday when the Diplomats host Bryn Mawr at 12:00 p.m.
