LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team dropped a 114-89 decision against Centennial Conference (CC) opponent Ursinus on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats' record fell to 5-3, 3-2 CC, while the Bears improved to 9-0, 5-0 CC.
Katherine Grant earned two first-place victories on the day, including a win in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:04.67, and a victory in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:17.33.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Rebecca Daen finished second with a time of 1:59.87. Jillian Albus placed second in the following race, the 50-yard freestyle, at 25.01 as Ursinus' Cori Capodanno (24.97) edged Albus by only .04 seconds.
Capodanno (54.17) narrowly beat out Albus (54.97) in another tight race, the 100-yard freestyle, as Capodanno won by only .8 seconds.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Courtney Collins (2:18.81) and Caitlyn Fuller (2:19.56) finished second and fourth respectively. In the following race, Maggie Johns touched the wall second for the Diplomats with a time of 2:18.13, while Alexia Tomlinson placed fourth at 2:21.74.
Collins finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.05, while her teammates Taylor Mateja (2:22.60) and Fuller (2:24.30) placed third and fourth respectively.
In the final race of the afternoon, a team of Daen, Collins, Leeza Rojas, and Albus earned a first-place victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.86.
F&M returns to the pool Saturday when the Diplomats host Dickinson. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
