Dromerick Breaks School Record at Day One of Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio – Bridget Dromerick broke the Franklin & Marshall school record in the 500-yard freestyle to guide the Diplomats' women's swimming team at day one of the Zippy Invite hosted by the University of Akron. F&M sits in eighth place (103 points), while Akron is first with 597, followed by Marshall (518) and Illinois St. (457).

Three other Division I schools besides the host are represented at the Invite, including Illinois St., Marshall, and Niagara. The Division II schools include Bloomsburg, Clarion, and IUP, while the Diplomats are the sole Division III team present.

Dromerick (5:04.03) qualified for the consolation final of the 500-yard freestyle after a 12th-place spot in the preliminaries this morning. She won the B final with ease at 4:57.70, breaking the old school record of Jenna Walters' 4:58.91 back in 2006.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Melissa Mullin (2:12.67) and Courtney Collins (2:14.50) advanced to the C final, where Mullin (2:10.96) placed second (18th overall) and Collins (2:18.22) also earned points for the Diplomats.

Jillian Albus' time of 24.77 in the 50-yard freestyle earned her a spot in the C final, where she gave F&M points with a time of 24.90.

The Zippy Invite continues tomorrow with preliminaries at 9:00 a.m., followed by finals at 6:00 p.m. Races include the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard backstroke.
