LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus won nine out of 11 events en route to defeating Franklin & Marshall 139-66 on Friday night in Centennial Conference (CC) swimming. The loss, F&M's first to a conference foe this season, dropped the Diplomats to 5-2-1, 5-1 CC while the Bears improved to 7-0, 6-0 CC with the win.
Becca Meyers put together another strong outing for F&M, winning both distance freestyle events. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Meyers finished in 10:50.55 to take first place by more than 27 seconds. She was followed by teammate Leeza Rojas, whose time of 11:20.12 was good for third place.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Meyers' time of 5:07.67 was again good for first place. Grace Pereles joined her on the podium after clocking a time of 5:20.40 to take third.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Anna Hess led the Diplomats by posting a time of 1:01.05 to take second place. Also earning runner-up honors was Melissa Mullin, who took second in the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing in 1:09.25. She was followed by Michelle Wall in third at 1:11.40.
Mullin also competed 200-yard IM, taking third in 2:15.17 while Pereles tallied her second bronze finish of the day in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.34). Jillian Albus added a third-place finish of her own in the 100-yard freestyle, recording a time of 56.62.
F&M completes a quick turnaround tomorrow, taking to the pool at 1:00 p.m. in Gettysburg to take on the Bullets.
