LANCASTER, Pa. - Gettysburg College's women's swim team opened up their Centennial Conference title defense on a solid note at F&M's Kunkel Aquatic Center Friday evening. The Bullets hold 71.5 points on the field, trailed by Swarthmore and Dickinson. Franklin & Marshall is in sixth place through the first day of the 2008 Centennial Championships, having been blanked in the medal department.
Freshman Laura Bassford placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:15.53. Washington's Megan Morse won with a 2:13.98, touching no more than three seconds ahead of the races top six finishers.
The Diplomats' team of Brittany McCabe, Lucia Parry, Maureen McCluskey, and Meghan Karanian placed fifth in the 200-yard free relay with a 1:41.59. Gettysburg's foursome won the race with a 1:38.95. The Bullets were victorious in four of the night's five events. The Diplomats 400-yard medley relay team was disqualified for a false start.
The Diplomats return to the pool tomorrow. Preliminaries get underway at 10:00 a.m. The finals are set for 6:00 p.m. The entire meet is being streamed live on B2 Networks, and real-time updates are available on GoDiplomats.com.
