LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Rebecca Swisher looks to finish her storied career in style as she represents the Diplomats in the pole vault at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set to begin on Thursday. The championships, which mark the seventh year in a row that F&M has been represented at the meet, run from May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Swisher (Lititz, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) makes her third consecutive appearance at the national outdoor championships and her fifth straight appearance including indoor competition. The senior is a three-time All-American, including a seventh-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and has finished as high as fourth, which she achieved at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships.
To earn All-America status for a fifth time, Swisher needs to finish in the event's top eight. She enters competition seeded ninth with a height of 3.84 meters (12'-7.25"), just a quarter-inch from the competition's eighth seed. Ithaca's Katherine Pitman is the event's top seed, posting a height of 4.18 meters (13'-8.5").
Swisher competes this Thursday, with the pole vault now scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. central time (3:00 p.m. eastern time), rather than the previously scheduled 4:00 p.m. start. Live results for the event can be found here, while a video feed is available by clicking here.
