Diplomats Fall to Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The highly anticipated match-up between Franklin & Marshall and defending Centennial Conference (CC) Volleyball Champions Haverford took place Friday night and fell in favor of the Fords. The intense match-up was forced to four sets. Haverford proved they still have a championship caliber team with a 3-1 victory.  

The Fords took a commanding five point lead in the first set at 15-10 when Pam Horner attacked the net gaining three consecutive points keeping the Diplomats focused. F&M had a chance to put the first game in their favor with the score at 24-22 but Haverford regrouped during a timeout and scored four unanswered points to win the set 26-24.

The battle continued into the second game, as both teams exchanged points until the Fords were able to gain a three-point cushion at 21-18. F&M responded back with four uncontested points starting with a kill by Nicole Morano.  Sydney Seydel had a winning block giving the set to the Diplomats, 26-24.

The third set ultimately changed the tone of the matchup as the Fords jumped out to an early 12-4 lead. The Diplomats were unable to contain the offensive attack losing 25-12. Despite a hard effort from F&M, Haverford cruised to victory winning the fourth set 25-14.  

Offensively the Diplomats were led by Candice Tussing and Morano each dishing out 10 kills. Katy May contributed 11 digs on defense and teammate Pam Horner added 11 digs and 28 assists.  

Franklin & Marshall dropped to 16-6 overall (5-2 CC) as Haverford improved to 12-12 overall (5-0 CC).  

F&M has four regular season matchups left in the season starting with Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
