Diplomats Stop Bullets

LANCASTER, Pa.—Franklin & Marshall clinched a first-round bye in the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament, and kept its hopes for the top seed alive with a convincing 3-0 over Gettysburg in volleyball action Wednesday night at Mayser Center.  With the win, the Diplomats improve to 17-10 (8-1 CC), while the Bullets fall to 18-9 (8-1 CC).

The first set went back and forth, before F&M scored seven of the final nine points to take a 25-18 win.  Both teams had several chances to take the second set before the Diplomats finally prevailed 27-25.  F&M controlled the third set from start to finish, winning 25-11.

Syndey Seydel led the Diplomats offense with eight kills, and played her second straight errorless game.  She also tallied a .533 hitting percentage.  Julie Harvey and Jessica Poucel added seven kills each.  Heather Letzkus and Candice Tussing each recorded six kills.

Prior to the match, Katy May was honored for becoming the 16th Diplomat in the 39 year history of the program to record 1,000 digs.  May added another 12 digs tonight, and now has 1,065 for her career.  Caitlin Krutsick tallied another 10 digs to pace the defense.  The Diplomats also had 10 service aces, led by Poucel with three.

F&M will close the regular season with a home match against Dickinson at 11 a.m.  Prior to the match, the Diplomats will honor seniors Katy May, Stephanie Armstrong, Jessica Poucel, Lis Power, and Mariah Eble.  An F&M win, combined with a Gettysburg win over Johns Hopkins, will give the Diplomats a share of the regular season title.
