Volleyball Outlasts Mary Washington in Scramble Day One

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team opened its annual Scramble Tournament with a 3-1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-20, 25-23) defeat of Mary Washington at the Mayser Center.

The Diplomats, who received four votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, are now 1-0 on the season as the Eagles fell to 0-1 in the season's inaugural match.

Back-to-back Delaney Hahn kills cemented the victory in the first set.

After splitting the first two sets, F&M buckled down to take both of the final sets by tight margins, winning by five and two points, respectively. F&M led the fourth set by a 23-19 margin before Mary Washington battled back to get within one at 24-23. However, the Diplomats closed out the set and the match with a pair of Allison Franke kills.

Four Diplomats notched double-digit kills, led by Franke with 12. Amy Mullen had 11 kills while Nicole Carey and Hahn each recorded 10 for the F&M offense.

Grace Maggiore picked up where she left off from last year's All-American season, recording 35 of the team's 40 assists.

Hahn and Carlita Bozzo paced F&M's defense with nine digs apiece. Maggiore also tallied six digs.

The Diplomats play two games Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. against Geneseo and wrapping up the Scramble with a 2:30 p.m. matchup against Arcadia.
