LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team swept Muhlenberg 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-13) in the first Centennial Conference (CC) match of the 2019 season on Saturday.
The Diplomats improved to 9-2, 1-0 CC while the Mules fell to 5-7, 0-1 CC.
Muhlenberg opened the first set with a 4-0 run and later a 5-3 lead before the Diplomats took 10 consecutive points to earn a 13-5 lead. F&M later went on another 7-0 run en route to a 25-10 set victory, capped by an Allison Franke kill.
The Diplomats had a 5-3 advantage early in the second set. A 5-1 run by F&M expanded the lead to 10-4. The Diplomats took four of the last five points, finished by an Amy Mullen kill, to take set two, 25-18.
The third and final set began with an 8-5 lead for F&M. The Diplomats went on a 12-3 run to go up 20-8. Annmarie Earley's service ace clinched the sweep and a 25-13 set victory.
Grace Maggiore finished with 30 assists, leading the team.
On defense, Carlita Bozzo had 12 digs, the most of any Diplomat.
F&M returns to action with a CC-matchup on Wednesday night, when they hit the road to face Dickinson at 7:00 p.m.
