LANCASTER, Pa. – Grace Maggiore's triple-double led the way for Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team as the Diplomats took a 3-1 victory (25-13, 25-27, 25-16, 25-7) over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) play on Thursday night.
F&M improved to 14-3, 5-0 CC while the Green Terror fell to 9-9, 3-2 CC.
The Diplomats jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set. McDaniel narrowed the deficit to 10-8 before F&M turned on the jets again, closing out the 25-13 set on a 15-5 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Maggiore and Allison Franke.
F&M seemed poised to take set two. The Diplomats owned a 23-19 advantage before the Green Terror surged to take eight of the next 10 to force extra points and win the set, 27-25.
Tied 3-3 early in the third set, F&M was ready to bounce back. The Diplomats went on a 17-8 run, taking a 25-16 set victory. Maggiore picked up the set-clinching kill.
The final set opened with a similar 3-3 split between the Diplomats and McDaniel before F&M took 11 consecutive points behind Grace Polisano's serve. Nicole Carey and Casey Morrow each recorded a pair of kills in the run that gave the Diplomats a 14-3 lead. F&M did not slow down as they finished the set on a 9-4 run to win 25-7. An Amy Mullen ace was the clincher.
Franke and Carey each recorded 11 kills to pace the Diplomat offense.
Carlita Bozzo led the defense with 20 digs.
Maggiore recorded a team-leading 32 assists along with 10 kills and 15 digs to pick up the aforementioned triple-double.
The Diplomats return to CC play on Saturday, when they face Ursinus in Collegeville at 1:00 p.m.
