The 1942 men's cross country team was arguably the best cross country team in school history, as the team made history by winning the Middle Atlantic Conference States Collegiate Athletic Association Cross Country Championship, held at Lehigh University. The victory marked the first time F&M competed in the race and defeated Lehigh, which had not been defeated in a dual meet in over two years. Rutgers University, Muhlenberg, Alfred, Swarthmore and Haverford finished behind F&M and the Engineers.
Following a 4-1 1941 season in which the team only lost to City College of New York (a 31-24 defeat), F&M bounced back in 1942 to go 4-1 again (a 28-27 loss to CCNY the only blemish). Included in the record were victories over Delaware, a loss to CCNY, a 20-35 win over Muhlenberg and a win a West Chester. The win over West Chester marked the Golden Rams only defeat of the season.
