Herb Galebach, a history major, graduated from F&M in 1951. During his collegiate career, Galebach played four years of football, three of baseball, and one of basketball. However, it was in football that Galebach earned his Hall of Fame recognition. His senior year (1950), the Diplomat football team completed the first undefeated, untied season in school history, completing the year with a 9-0 record. On their way to the undefeated season, the Diplomats shut out five opponents and allowed only one opponent to score more that 14 points in a game.
The Diplomats trounced Gettysburg, 59-20, in their annual Thanksgiving Day battle, assuring the undefeated season. F&M ranked among the small college leaders on defense that year, allowing only 160 yard per game. Galebach's versatility was bourne out by the many positions he played during that season and his career: quarterback, defensive safety, placekicker, punter, and offensive play-caller. A number of Galebach's teammates have already preceded him into the F&M Sports Hall of Fame. Following graduation, Galebach owned and operated Galebach's Furniture Store in Lancaster until its recent sale. He continues to reside in Lancaster.
