Robert D. Curtis served as head football coach from 1971-74, posting a record of 32-3 and turning in two of F&M's unbeaten, untied seasons. His .914 winning percentage is tops in school history. In 1972, Curtis guided the Diplomats to a 9-0 regular season mark and the second of four straight Middle-Atlantic Conference South Championships. The Diplomats earned the Division III Lambert Trophy in 1972, the era's most coveted football award.
