What is SAAC?
A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses. The SAAC also works with members of the faculty to make sure that the student-athletes are not given special treatment, rather to the benefit or the detriment of the individual athlete.

Presently, there are separate national SAACs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SAACs.

The information that follows will assist you in understanding how the network of SAACs, from individual campus committees to the conference and/or national committees, interact and support one another to shape intercollegiate athletics policy and enhance the student-athlete experience.

At Franklin & Marshall, the SAAC generally works in three areas of the athletic department. First, the SAAC organizes and runs community service events for the surrounding blocks of Lancaster. In the hall, the SAAC hosts Haunted Hallways, an event for youth to trick-or-treat on Halloween night in the safe environment of the College's Alumni Sports & Fitness Center. In the spring, the organization's yearly large service project, TeamWork, assists the James Street Improvement District clean up and beautify the city blocks in its jurisdiction.

One other aspect of the SAAC is to assist student-athletes become more of an integral part of the school community. To that end, F&M's SAAC established the Dip Pride Program in January 2008. Teams earn points by attending campus programming and events, improving athletes visibility on campus.
