HAVERFORD, PA - Freddy McNeely (Fr., Newtown Square, PA/Hill School) made her intercollegiate debut a memorable one earning a 3-0 victory at #1 over Amy Kim of Haverford College to lead the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats to a 8-1 rout of the Fords.
The Diplomats swept through the #1-5 positions as McNeely, Jessie Mitchell (Fr., Devonshire, Bermuda/Canterbury), Minal Patel (So., Avon, CT/Westminster), Karley Biggs (Sr., Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy) and Mo Coogan (Sr., Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) coasted to victories over their Haverford competition.
Overall, the Diplomats recorded 3-0 sweeps at #1, 2, 4, 7 and 8 to open the season 1-0. The best match of the day occurred at #5 as Coogan handled Zu Huei Tay 9-2, 7-9, 9-6 and 9-7.
The victory improves Franklin & Marshall to 15-4 all-time against the Fords and snaps a two match losing streak to Haverford as the team fell 6-3 in the 2002-03 season opener on November 16, 2002 and dropped a 7-2 decision on February 9, 2003. The Diplomats last victory over the Fords came on February 9, 2002 as Franklin & Marshall behind two-time All-America selection Anjali Ponni-Rajkumar defeated the Fords 6-3.
The Diplomats will return to action on November 20 when they travel to the University of Pennsylvania.
