NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ -- 133-lbs. Rich Gebauer (So., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and 157-lbs. Mike Parziale (So., Woburn, MA/Woburn) both went 2-0 as the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats split a pair of matches at Rutgers University falling to the host Scarlet Knights (32-6) and blanking Wagner (45-0).
Versus Rutgers, the Diplomats recorded two victories as Gebauer handled Ricky Ringel 6-0 at 133 and Parziale took a 7-4 decision at 157 over Jim Roskinski. However, the Knights dominated the remainder of the slate tallying major decisions at 165, 184 and 295, a technical fall at 197 and a pin at 141 to down Franklin & Marshall.
In the concluding match of the tri-meet, the Diplomats used four pins, three of which came in a row from 141-157, and three major decisions to shutout Wagner 45-0. Trent Dixon (So., Baltimore, MD/Eastern Tech) got the ball rolling at 125 as he took an 8-6 victory to give the Diplomats a 3-0 lead. After a Gebauer major decision at 133, F&M rolled off three straight pins as Joe Perretta (So., Havertown, PA/Haverford), Greg Soufleris (So., Parkland, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) and Parziale handled their opponents in 6:22, 39 seconds and 2:28, respectively. Nate Schy (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Hatboro Horsham) rounded out Franklin & Marshall's victors by fall as he controlled Wagner's Vincent Vazzana before sticking his shoulders to the mat at the 2:03 mark.
F&M will return to the mat on January 24 when they host Eastern Michigan and Duquesne at the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
