ANNAPOLIS, MD -- George Edwards (So., Bryn Mawr, PA/Harriton) and Karan Behal (Sr., Gandhidham, India/Lawrence School) took their matches the distance before falling 3-2 as the Franklin & Marshall College men's squash team dropped a 9-0 decision to Trinity College in a neutral site match at the United States Naval Academy.
Trinity, which recorded six 3-0 victories, was pushed at #2, #7 and #9 as Edwards, Behal and Tom Kiefhaber (Jr., Cincinnatti, OH/Seven Hills Upper School) fought back from early deficits to battle their opponents.
At #2, Edwards rallied from a 10-8 loss to take a 2-1 lead over Shaun Cardoza behind 9-5 and 9-2 victories. However, Cardoza responded with a flurry to capture 9-7 and 9-2 victories to take the match 3-2.
Behal also rallied from an early deficit as Tripp Kyle jumped out to a 9-2 win before Behal returned the favor with 9-3 and 10-9 victories. In the fourth set, he nearly closed out the match, but Kyle rallied for a 10-8 win to keep the match alive before closing out the victory with a 9-2 win in the fifth set.
The Diplomats concluded the day with a strong showing at #9 as Kiefhaber fell behind 9-1 and 9-2 before winning a seesaw 10-9 set over Trinity's Peter Seala. In the fourth set, Seala closed out the match with a 9-6 victory.
Franklin & Marshall will return to the courts on January 31 when they travel to Haverford College for the Pennsylvania State Championships.
