LANCASTER, PA -- Mike Parziale (Fr., Norristown, PA/Germantown Academy) went 3-0 as the Franklin & Marshall College wrestling team defeated Delaware State (45-0), but fell to Duquesne (23-22 L) and Eastern Michigan (27-10 L) in a quad-meet at the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center.
Versus Delaware State, the Diplomats coasted to the win as the team recorded four pins, two forfeits and a decision for the 45-0 victory. The win marked the second shutout in a week for Franklin & Marshall as the Diplomats blanked Wagner 45-0 on January 17 at Rutgers University.
In the match, Trent Dixon (So., Baltimore, MD/Eastern Tech) put his team ahead to say with a pin at 125 lbs. before Rich Gebauer (Jr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and Joe Perretta (So., Havertown, PA/Haverford) recorded forfeit victories at 133 and 141 lbs., respectively.
Greg Soufleris (So., Parkland, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) and Parziale notched pins at 144 and 157, Ted Seemuller (Sr., Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tallied a forfeit victory at 165 and Nate Schy (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Hatboro Horsham) earned a 10-4 decision at 174. RP Norley (Jr., Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) closed out the meet with a pin at 197, as the 184 and 285 lbs. matches were not contested.
Against Duquesne, Marc Allemang recorded a 19-4 technical fall in the heavyweight match for five points as the Dukes overcame a 22-18 Franklin & Marshall lead to capture a 23-22 victory.
F&M jumped out to the lead early in the match as Beard and Gebauer recorded decisions at 125 and 133 before the Dukes responded with decisions at 141 and 144 to tie the match. Parziale pinned Brandon Baldini in 3:13 at 157 lbs. to put his team in front 12-6, but Jared Ricotta returned the favor by pinning Seemuller at 165 in 4:49 to tie the match.
F&M and Duquesne traded falls at 174 and 184 as Schy and Matt Doak pinned their opponents before Norley netted a 13-1 major decision over Chandler Carranoza to take a four-point lead. The loss drops the Diplomats to 1-8 all-time against Duquesne since the series started in 1995 as F&M recorded a 30-10 win over the Dukes in Ypsilanti, Michigan last year when Eastern Michigan hosted the meet.
Against Eastern Michigan, the Eagles won seven of the 10 matches to take a 27-10 victory. For F&M, Beard earned a 9-1 major decision at 125 lbs., while Parziale and Norley notched decisions at 157 and 197 to account for F&M's scoring as the Diplomats fall to 0-4 against Eastern Michigan.
Franklin & Marshall (7-6) will continue the season on January 31 at home versus James Madison, Binghamton and Delaware State at home in the Mayser Center. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
