PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Franklin & Marshall College men's squash team finished 1-1 by defeating Haverford and falling to Penn at the 2004 Pennsylvania State Men's Squash Championships hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
Against the host Quakers, F&M fell 9-0 as Penn eight 9-0 victories. The Diplomats best match came at #5 as Hassan Ahmed (Sr., Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison College) rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to take the second game of the match 9-6 off Will Simonton. However, Simonton used a strong game to close out the match and record a 3-1 victory.
Versus Haverford, Franklin & Marshall raised its all-time record to 15-1 as the program registered its 15th straight victory over the Fords since a series opening loss in 1967.
Overall, F&M registered seven 3-0 sweeps and was pushed slightly in two matches as Haverford's #5 Paul Koprowski and # 8 Carl Lederman managed to take games in 3-1 losses.
Leading the charge for F&M against the Fords was #2 George Edwards (So., Bryn Mawr, PA/Harriton) as the second year player cruised to a 9-1, 9-6, 9-1 victory over Jeremy Babener. Further, #7 Karan Behal (Sr., Gandhidham, India/Lawrence School) knocked off David Poolman 9-4, 9-0, 9-3.
Franklin & Marshall (6-5) will return to the courts on February 1 at home versus Rochester and Wesleyan. Opening serve is set for noon at the Mayser Center Squash Courts.
