NEW HAVEN, CT - The Franklin & Marshall College men's squash team fell to Amherst (5-4 L), Navy (5-4 L) and Brown (7-2 L) to finish 16th at the 2004 College Squash Association Men's Team Championships hosted by Yale University and Choate Rosemary Hall.
In the first match, the Diplomats fell to Amherst in a tight match as the Diplomats recorded wins at #1, 2, 3 and 5. At #2, #42 nationally ranked George Edwards (So., Bryn Mawr, PA/Harriton) rolled over Auloke Mathur 3-0 (9-6, 9-1, 9-1), while Hassan Ahmed (Sr., Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison College) defeated Tyler Mixter 3-0 (9-6, 9-7, 10-8) at #5.
Against Brown in the second match of the weekend, #23 nationally ranked Mihir Kapoor (Sr., Mumbai, India/Doon School) knocked off Breck Bailey 3-1 (9-4, 8-10, 10-9, 9-1) at #1 as the Diplomats also recorded a win at #3 as #54 nationally ranked Satyajit Seshadri (Fr., Chennai, India/Gill Adarsh) handled Dave Krupnick 3-0 (9-6, 9-6, 10-8) in a 7-2 loss.
Franklin & Marshall concluded the weekend versus Navy as the Midshipmen used a strong performance at the bottom of their lineup to handle the Diplomats 5-4.
At #1, Kapoor coasted past Gavin Morrison 3-0 (9-5, 9-1, 9-0) to tie Steve Hopkins '91 for ninth in career victories at F&M as he upped his record to 66-21. Edwards managed a hard-fought 3-2 win (5-9, 10-8, 0-9, 9-2, 9-2) at #2 against Scott Hackman before Seshadri pounded Mike Brennan 3-0 (9-2, 9-0, 9-4) at #3. Karan Behal (Sr., Gandhidham, India/Lawrence School) stopped Dhruv Parashar 3-2 (9-7, 10-8, 6-9, 2-9, 9-0) at #7 to round out the Diplomats' victors.
F&M (10-12) will continue the season next weekend at the College Squash Association Team Championships.
