LANCASTER, PA -- Mike Parziale (So., Woburn, MA/Woburn) and Nate Schy (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Hatboro Horsham) went 2-0 on the day as the Franklin & Marshall College wrestling team fell to Drexel (28-14 L), but defeated Davidson (25-19 W) to improve to 11-7 on the year.
The record marks the most victories by a Franklin & Marshall College wrestling team since the 1991 team finished 11-6.
Overall, the Diplomats have a chance to break the program's all-time single season wins mark of 15 wins established by the 1980 team (15-3).
Against Drexel, Schy defeated Nick Kozar 5-2 at 174 lbs. to put the Diplomats up 3-0. However, the Dragons fired back winning six out of the next seven bouts to take a 24-7 lead with two bouts to wrestle. Parziale put the Diplomats back on the board at 157 with a major decision (17-7) over Ray Lamb and Ted Seemuller (Sr., Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) used an escape in the last seconds of the 165 lbs. match to take a 5-4 victory over Steve Beard for the final 24-14 decision.
In the nightcap, the Diplomats dominated Davidson College 25-19 as the squad reeled off four straight wins with two pin-falls. At 184 lbs., Ben Evans (So., Yardley, PA/Peddie School) pinned Pat Scandling in 5:54 before R.P. Norley (Jr., Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) pinned Jayson Powers in 1:01 at 197 lbs.
The Wildcats made a match of it, however, winning the 125, 133 and 141 lbs. bouts, but Matt McConnell (Sr., Kennett Square, PA/St. Mark's) defeated Ronnie Lofrese 10-4 at 149 lbs. before Parziale clinched the win courtesy an 11-6 victory over Adam Sperlilng at 157 lbs.
Franklin & Marshall College will return to the mat on February 13 at EIWA foe American University. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
