NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Mike Parziale (Jr., Woburn, MA/Woburn) went 2-0 with a technical fall and a pin at 157 lbs., but Duquesne University and Millersville University rallied for a pair of wins over the Diplomats in the final two rounds of the 2005 Virginia Duals.
Parziale handled Dan Pauley of Duquesne 22-7 and pinned Millersville's Nick Foley in 6:53 to finish 3-0 at the tournament following a 19-4 technical fall over Reuben Russell of Newport News Apprentice. The wins raise his season record to 21-4 on the year to become the first F&M wrestler to record three 20+ win seasons.
Historically, Parziale holds the 12th and 20th best single season win totals in F&M wrestling history as he finished 22-8 as a sophomore and registered a 25-10 mark in 2003 to establish a record for the most wins by a freshman in Diplomats' history.
To date, he is 9-0 in dual meets this year as his victories at the Virginia Duals raise his career record to 68-22 as he surpassed John Johnston '89 (67-35-3) for eighth in career victories and is tied with Matt Shearer '93 (68-48-1) for seventh in wins at Franklin & Marshall College.
In addition to Parziale, 133 lbs. Rich Gebauer (Jr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) went 2-0 on the second day of the tournament as he took a 6-5 decision over Brad Cipriani of Duquesne and a default against Millersville to finish 3-0 at the 2005 Duals.
Matt Veres (Jr., Phillipsburg, NJ/Blair Academy) rounded out the Diplomats perfect 3-0 finishers as he defeated Rob Dempsey of Duquesne 10-4 and took a 16-3 major decision over Millersville's Jesse Gronlie.
Franklin & Marshall (3-6) will continue the season on January 22 at the University of Pittsburgh versus Pitt, Duquesne and Eastern Michigan. The Diplomats will look to win the 600th match in program history as Franklin & Marshall will enter the quadrangular with a 599-459 record since the 1924 tam under head coach Charlie Mayser defeated McDaniel College 24-5 for the first win in program history.
